At Pocklington, we are committed to helping every student discover their passion, nurturing their talents, and preparing them for a successful life after school. Our wide range of clubs and societies ensures there’s something for everyone and we very much hope you take us up on the incredible opportunities on offer at Pocklington.
Our rich co-curricular programme offers a refreshing change of perspective
Music and Drama
Music and drama are vibrant at Pocklington and open to all students, not only those studying these subjects academically. Whether your interest lies in performing, or you are keen to explore backstage roles like directing or costume design, there’s a multitude of ways to engage with our exciting performance calendar and school productions.
The House Music and Drama competitions are particular highlights of the School calendar and fiercely contested. The Sixth Form students lead in organisation and production of individual house entries for the contest.
Art
For the artistically inclined, our Art Department encourages exploration across various mediums – be it through painting, drawing, sculpting, video making or animation. We are keen to take any opportunities to showcase students’ artwork in community exhibitions.
Leadership skills are developed through participation in the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and our Community Action initiatives
As a member of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), our cadets follow a disciplined training programme which aims to develop their resourcefulness, communication skills, self-reliance and responsibility as well as cultivating a community service ethos. At Sixth Form level, selected cadets can organise and guide our younger cadets, taking on significant leadership roles and acquiring life skills that will be invaluable in their future careers. Cadets take part in field days, overnight training exercises, RAF flying days and are given the opportunity to experience adventurous training and summer camp residential weeks.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award invites students to create their own adventure, building teamwork and leadership skills through progressively challenging levels while promoting physical fitness and personal growth.
Our Community Action programme enables students to contribute to the wider community, whether through conservation projects, assisting at local schools or engaging with the elderly and charitable organisations. This is particularly beneficial for students considering careers in healthcare or related fields.
Our international, musical, sporting and cultural excursions are a popular addition to our frequent trips to enrich academic learning and personal development
We offer a variety of international trips related to different subject areas such as art, classics and modern languages, in addition to sports tours and charitable expeditions. Past destinations have included various African countries and the US, enriching students’ academic and cultural understanding.
