Options for
boarding

At Pocklington, we believe that every family’s situation is unique. This is why we tailor our junior and senior boarding provision to meet each individual’s needs and recognise that the needs of our boarders change with age.

Our youngest boarders can enjoy ‘The Hive’, a specially designed club for Prep School Year 5 pupils up to Year 8 in Senior School. Hive boarders get together for after-school clubs, homework, evening meals, evening activities and enjoyable free time before retiring to their respective boarding houses for their bedtime routines. We know these joint activities are hugely beneficial for developing confidence, interpersonal skills and friendships, as well as further smoothing the transition of pupils from Prep School into Senior School.

We have a flexible approach, offering full-time, weekly and part-time boarding packages to cater for a variety of family situations and needs. Choosing our boarding services ensures that your child will enjoy the full Pocklington experience with access to a rich programme of activities and trips.

full boarding

During term time our boarding houses become a home away from home to full-time boarders who stay with us seven nights a week when school is open.

Our weekends are a hive of activity and fun, where pupils can engage in a range of activities. Saturdays often involve a sporting fixture or taking part in our enrichment programme which encourages teamwork, a sense of community and fosters diverse interests. Sunday’s activity programme changes each term. Off-site trips are popular features and include outings to local beaches, theme parks, cinema and ice skating. There is also a variety of on-site activities, from craft workshops to exciting games such as ‘zorbing’ and archery.

Exeat weekends offer flexibility and variety for our boarders and their families. They can choose to go home or to a friend or guardian’s house. Alternatively, they can opt to remain with the boarding community for the weekend.

Weekly boarding 'plus'

Our weekly boarding ‘plus’ can be a flexible option for pupils engaged in regular Saturday sports fixtures and parents who have weekend commitments. This package covers Monday to Friday night boarding and to further meet the needs of our families, we have included the option to board on Sunday nights at no extra cost.

Weekly boarding ‘plus’ also includes our Saturday enrichment programme, allowing our boarders  to participate in a range of activities designed to extend their learning and enhance their skills outside the classroom.

Weekly boarding

Weekly boarding can make your child’s boarding experience enriching, convenient and fun. Parents can be assured that their children are kept on track with their academic studies during the week, whilst enjoying a wide array of co-curricular activities in a friendly and fun community. Weekly boarders arrive refreshed and ready for learning on Monday mornings after returning home after school ends on a Friday afternoon, to relax and enjoy family time over the weekend.

part-time boarding

Our part-time boarding package is designed with the needs of modern families in mind. Offering flexibility to choose one, two or three nights of boarding from Monday to Thursday, it provides an easy solution to juggling family commitments, academic supervision and children’s social life.

This boarding option ensures that pupils receive academic supervision, allows them to participate in various boarding activities and helps them to develop independence and maturity. This package also works well as a stepping stone to weekly or full-time boarding.

Our boarders have structured time to focus on their studies under the supervision and support of our professional boarding team. Our older boarders are given the flexibility of studying in the Library until 8.00pm on weekdays. Our younger boarders are also provided access to the Library on certain weekdays on a rota basis.

Every evening, there is a range of enjoyable activities for boarders to enjoy, providing a great way for them to relax with their friends after completing their academic work.

OCCASIONAL BOARDING

We offer the option for day pupils to experience the benefits of boarding life on an occasional basis. From Monday to Thursday, pupils can board for just one night and different nights each time, providing the convenience and flexibility for both parents and pupils. This arrangement is subject to space availability in the appropriate boarding house, so we always encourage planning ahead.

extended day boarding

We understand that modern-day parents may have unpredictable schedules and there may be instances when you need your child to stay at school beyond 5.45pm. To address this need, we provide extended day boarding.

This service is available for pupils in Year 5 and above, where they can stay in our boarding houses until 8.00pm. This service is flexible, enabling parents to choose between two to four evenings per week,  Monday to Thursday or on occasional evenings when required.

Your child will be welcomed into an age-appropriate boarding house and enjoy being part of the boarding community, where they will join their peers for meals, participate in fun activities and also have quiet study periods. This not only ensures that their homework gets completed but also offers them time to relax, engage and foster relationships with their friends, all in a safe and nurturing environment.
