Specifically tailored for boarders, our weekday and weekend activity programmes complement our general school activities and enrich our pupils’ lives beyond the classroom.
We celebrate the diversity of our pupil body
During the week, we engage pupils in a wide range of evening activities that include swimming, various sports, cooking classes, arts and crafts, outings to sports events, cinema nights and visits to climbing walls. Musicians can access practice rooms by co-ordinating with the Director of Music. Our boarding community events, such as international theme nights, dinners, barbecues and seasonal celebrations add to the vibrant School culture. These structured activities are balanced with plenty of free time for pupils to unwind and socialise.
Saturdays bring a focus
on culture, skills and teamwork
For those not involved in sports fixtures, our Saturday morning enrichment programme introduces boarders to the rich culture and history of East Yorkshire, alongside teaching new skills, and the opportunity to gain useful qualifications valuable for life beyond school. Sixth Form students benefit from study skills sessions, academic workshops, and life-skills activities within this programme.
Sundays are reserved
for relaxation and fun
Our varied termly Sunday programme includes off-site trips to beaches and theme parks, as well as on-site activities such as crafts and archery.
Junior boarders in Dolman and Orchard House all take part in Sunday activities, with the costs included in the boarding fees. Senior boarders in Fenwick-Smith and Faircote House are encouraged, though not required, to join in at least once each half-term (there may be an additional excursion charge for some trips). Interested students simply need to express their interest to house staff. Sixth Form students also have the option of visiting York or spending time with day students.
Chapel services form a core part of our communal activities, welcoming all boarders, their parents, and guardians, further enriching the family-feel of our boarding community.
