Pocklington School Charity Week 2024

This year’s Charity Week was a truly unforgettable event. Charity Week is an annual Pocklington School event aimed at raising funds for a range of charitable causes. At the beginning of each year, every house selects a charity to support, with options ranging from local, national, international, and environmental organisations. This year, pupils chose to support the Royal British Legion, the Ocean Conversation Trust, Young People Count Pocklington and Anti-Slavery International.

As part of the fundraising efforts, each house organised an array of fun breaktime and lunchtime activities in support of their chosen charity. This included delicious bake sales, blackjack games, bacon butty stalls, leg waxing and much more. Pupils actively participated in all aspects of these events, from brainstorming ideas to setting up stalls, showcasing their musical talents and even washing cars in the rain.

Alongside the house-led events, the charity committee arranged a number of popular whole-school activities throughout the week. Monday kicked off Charity Week with an exciting disco for First and Second years hosted by YorkMix Radio. Pupils danced, played games and won some great prizes. The fun continued on Tuesday with the highly anticipated pizza and waffle sales which brought smiles to pupils’ faces as they tucked into their break time snacks. On Wednesday the famous Pocklington School gunging took place, with the Head Boy and Head Girl getting gunged after their coming third in the voting with 400 votes. Ms Sargeant grabbed second place with 472 votes and Mrs Peel emerged as the clear winner with 585 votes! The gunging was buckets of fun, and the auction raised over £600 alone. Despite the dreary weather on Thursday, pupils gathered in St Nicholas’ quad for another charity week tradition – musical chairs. The atmosphere was electric, as one by one the chairs and pupils were whittled down to find the one lucky winner.

In total, this year’s Charity Week raised an impressive £4786 which will be split between the four chosen charities. The funds raised will make a significant impact to these organisations, so we’d like to issue a massive thank you to everyone who helped bring the week together and to all those who participated and donated.
